The joint CPP/LPP project "Linking demand for and supply of agricultural information in Uganda" (see R8281 for more information) has made good progress in less than two years of operation. Excellent collaboration networks have been formed with NAADS, NARO, Farmer Groups, the conventional extension service and the private sector. Information demand from farmers and intermediate users has been assessed, and problems with the supply of information identified and addressed. A novel adaptive research process has been tested, and dissemination of progress has been active through a project Newsletter, conference papers and the NAADS website. All aspects of the work to date have included livestock as an integral component of the farming systems of Ugandan smallholder farmers. In particular, Draught Animal Power and the deworming of goats have featured highly in the testing of the adaptive research process, building on LPP work from Uganda and India respectively. Two aspects of the work to date merit extension. These are: a) improvement in the treatment of NRM issues in the NAADS demand assessment process, and b) the consolidation and institutionalisation of the adaptive research process. These additional aspects of the project have been discussed with NAADS and NARO, who support them and believe they will add significant value to the work already in progress.
