RSS Hints and Tips
- News or RSS Feeds are an easy way to keep up to date with information being added to R4D.
- Instead of browsing through R4D to see whether any new document information has been added in a particular topic area, the feed will alert you about any new information relating to the chosen subject.
- The feed reader will display item information and a direct link to the appropriate web page.
- To make use of RSS Feeds you need a Feed Reader. The latest versions of internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari) have built-in readers (implemented like bookmarks or favourites) which means that you do not necessarily need to install a separate Feed Reader.
- However, if you use RSS Feeds a lot, you may prefer to have a standalone Feed Reader running on your computer which is set to highlight new information. For example, the free NetNewsWire Lite for Macs or FeedReader for Windows.
- Once the Feed Reader is installed on your computer, select the relevant feed information in the R4D Feed Search, copy the url in the address field of the browser and paste it into the "Add Feed" function of the Feed Reader (each reader handles this slightly differently so you will have to follow your feed reader's instructions to a certain extent but the general principle is the same in all cases).
